Vice Chairman (Non Playing) and Fund Raising - Mike Deasey
Name:Mike DeaseyPlaying Position:Retired in 1997 but was the Beckham of the 70s with his Hoddlesque passing, Rivelino free-kicks and Greaves-like penalties.
Top LOBFC Moment:Converting two penalties during a Cup Semi-final against Clapham in 1982 (Worst Club moment: Losing the same game 4-3!).
Best player you ever played with:That's a tough one 'cos I played most of my football in the 4s, 5s and 6s. All the very good players for LOBFC over the years were obviously in the higher sides. There have been many terrific players for Latymer over the years but and a lot of them are ruled out because they played in the higher sides. Probably the most accomplished all-round footballer I played with was Michael McNamara in the early 90s, although it must be remembered that it was in the twilight of his career when he was nearer 50 than 40. Simon Mabey would be amongst the best players that ever wore a Latymer Old Boys jersey but I only played with him in my Sunday side, never for Latymer. The most prolific goalscorer would have to be Terry Watkins whose ability to hit the ball early always caught the opposition goalkeeper off guard. I played with Terry for many seasons. A lot of people forget that Steve 'Bigun' Hobbs played in goal when he first played for the Club. Before he moved to central defence I have to say that he was, without doubt, the best goalkeeper I have ever seen at that age, let alone played with. I think he went from the 5s to the 1s during the course of one season.
Club you support:Silly question – Tottenham Hotspur of course
Club career:Currently celebrating 40 years with the Club and has always been involved in something or other throughout those 40 years. Was a team captain (5th and 6th XIs) for many years, Social Committee Chairman for many years and Club Chairman for seven years. Currently the Club’s fund raiser managing the 100 Club. Produces the Quarterly Newsletter and with daughter Emma is responsible for providing burnt pizza and cold chips after matches.
Aim for the season:Still passionately involved with the Club and, as always, want the best for the Club. Would like to see a return of the heady days of the mid 80s, when we put out 7 sides each week and everybody came back to the Club after games.
